Three gilded bronze panels from the doors of the Baptistery of the Duomo (cathedral) in Florence arrive at the Seattle Art Museum in January 2008 for a rare glimpse at what Michelangelo named the Gates of Paradise. This masterpiece constructed in 1452 by Lorenzo Ghiberti is considered the gateway to the Italian Renaissance. Centuries later no Western culture is left untouched by them. The Mayflower Park Hotel is proud to offer the Gates of Paradise Package that includes two admission tickets and classic guest room. The Seattle Art Museum -SAM is just a short walk from the hotel in downtown Seattle.
The panels depicting biblical stories of “Adam and Eve,” Jacob and Esau” and “David and Goliath” will be moved back to Florence to be reassembled in the original doorway. “They are never expected to travel again,” according to the High Museum of Art, a collaborator of the exhibit.
